چکیده

Research has shown that conventional adaptive control and more sophisticated nonlinear approaches can suffer from a lack of robustness and transparency. In this paper, a multiple model technique is proposed that effectively incorporates established linear control methods within an inherently nonlinear framework. The resulting local model network (LMN) was found to describe the nonlinear dynamics of a laboratory turbogenerator excitation loop over its useful operating range. A simple nonlinear generalized minimum variance (GMV) controller was then designed for this system and compared with an adaptive GMV controller. The excellent control performance and transparent nature of the LMN illustrates the potential for this technique for a range of nonlinear control problems.

A Novel Approach to Trace Time-Domain Trajectories of Power Systems in Multiple Time Scales Based Flatness

This paper works on the concept of flatness and its practical application for the design of an optimal transient controller in a synchronous machine. The feedback linearization scheme of interest requires the generation of a flat output from which the feedback control law can easily be designed. Thus the computation of the flat output for reduced order model of the synchronous machine with simp...

A Simple Analytic Method to Model and Detect Non-Uniform Air-Gaps in Synchronous Generators

The air-gap of electrical machines may become non-uniform due to low accuracy of the manufacturing machinery, in assembling processes, or by aging. Detection and monitoring of this phenomenon is very important and of interest. There are several methods to model non-uniform air-gaps and to detect them by monitoring systems. One of the most widely used methods is by the analysis of the line curre...

Comparison of the effects of two flatness based control methods for STATCOM on improving stability in power systems including DFIG based wind farms

Power grids are complex, interconnected and nonlinear systems, and this will be more severe when they are subjected to high wind resources penetration. Static synchronous compensators (STATCOM) are used to improve voltage regulation and to meet grid codes in power systems, including doubly fed induction generators (DFIG) based wind farms. Despite the nonlinear nature of STATCOM, the conventiona...

Internal Fault Detection, Location, and Classification in Stator Winding of the Synchronous Generators Based on the Terminal Voltage Waveform

In this paper, a novel method is presented for detection and classification of the faultyphase/region in the stator winding of synchronous generators on the basis of the resulting harmoniccomponents that appear in the terminal voltage waveforms. Analytical results obtained through DecisionTree (DT) show that the internal faults are not only detectable but also they can be classified andthe rela...
